Multi Chapter Ride , February 24, 2008
Ride led by Chris Weidman Photos Courtesy of Luke Bonofiglio
Sunday turned out to be a great day as 8 of us climbed on board 6 Harleys to follow Chris northward to the corner of State Road 54 and US-41 in Land of Lakes. There we would meet with 2 more of our members and join the multi-chapter ride that would depart from that point. Chris did a great job getting us to the rendezvous point in time to grab a bite to eat and kibitz with members of some of the other chapters that would be joining the ride. And join they did, as more people arrived representing 5 more chapters, Ft Myers, Sarasota, St Petersburg, New Port Richey and Tampa. We left the parking lot with about 125 bikes per the organizers. We were also joined at Sleepy Hollow by the chapters from Claremont and Brandon, the later contributing another 60 bikes alone. Our chapter also had 3 more members arrive. That brought the total to 7 chapters and 211 bikes. The route planned and led by the Tampa Chapter was 60 miles long and wound its way thru many of beautiful parts of Florida between the starting point and Sleepy Hollow. There was a live band and a few vendors as well as the counter where you purchased your drinks. The food was good and you receive a good portion for the five dollar a plate cost. This place is also a local stop and is very popular with yachting types from the area. Of course they will at times drown out the music when they fire up the engines on their air boats. From a few of the signs I saw, I think that Sleepy Hollow is the quiet little fish camp that has grown up. I think it will be added to my list destinations of places to ride to.
