Dead Fish Sunday

It was a beautiful Sunday morn and not yet too hot so off we went to Ted Smokes Petered Fish,,,, eh,,,, Teds Smoked Fish Pe,,,, eh,,, Fishes Smoked Ted Pet,,,

Oh damn,, Let me look again.

OK. Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish in Pasadena FL. There we go.

It was a great ride albeit not very exciting. We cut across the new bridge to the beach road and headed south. Unfortunately we hit very few lights, traffic was light and while we did have an opportunity to clip a few pedestrians along the way, we passed it up and obeyed the laws and stopped at the crosswalks. We got to SPB about a half hour early so I jumped us onto the SE Extension and we cruised the beach at Pass-A-Grill.  That ate up some of the extra time had and put us at Teds at just about opening time of 11:30 AM.

A little ditty about Ted Peters

Ted Peters has been in St Pete since the beginning of time. It’s reported that Ted bought the fishes and loaves that were left over from the Sermon on the Mount. Of course he smoked them but in those days he used a pipe. One day after cleaning his pipe he licked his fingers and was amazed to find that he liked the taste. Hoping others would too he opened his first store on the banks of the Sinai River. The first year was pretty rough with the locust, famine, drought and all so he packed up his family and his belongings and moved to St Pete where he was an instant hit. He’s been here ever since. Drive within a few miles and you can smell the fresh fish being smoked in Ted’s smoke house.

The fish was excellent for them what had it. The others liked the fish spread and the burgers. I prefer the Salmon. Of course it’s the priciest thing on the menu, aside from Joanie who works the bar, but that’s another story. I had it anyway. The salmon, that is. I love it. And the German potato salad and cole slaw that accompanies the meal is equally pleasing to the palette.  The joint is highly recommended so if you’re ever in Pasadena and have a hankerin for some fish that’s dead, see Ted.
