Million Mile Monday June 27, 2011

Million Mile Monday started out as another interesting summer day in central Florida. A group of eight hardy and adventure seeking members of FBACC gathered at Fletcher’s South to attempt to collect a good amount of miles to enter on the combined worldwide total for the day. After the ride briefing and a scan of the weather application on his phone, Ed developed our route in an attempt to avoid the color covered parts of the state. This worked out well and we proceeded along many of the back roads on the northern route toward the Daytona area or where ever we were at about noon, which turned out to be Deland. Lunch was taken at Gators and just about everyone took part in the lunch special of wings and fries. We stepped out of Gators with full bellies but to the sight of darkening clouds and thunder in the distance. Tradition dictates that on this Monday you need to practice your wet road skills so we started home in our weight reduction suites. For most of the journey we were able to avoid much more than a sprinkle until we turned south off of SR-50 toward Dade City when we saw the wall of real rain. We didn’t have to ride far as it was the typical Florida summer cloud burst and the rest of the ride home was dry.
Our day put 320 miles on each of our odometers for a combine entry of 2560 miles.
